Understanding Geek – The Comic
Aug 23rd
Today I get to make a short, personal post about a new project of mine being launched as I write this.
Understanding Geek is a web comic written by myself (Dave Martin) and illustrated by Matthew Dolan. To put it in as few words as possible, it’s about being a geek. The characters, situations, and stories are mostly taken from real life and given that twist that turns them into a comic.
Issue 3 was just published this morning, and I encourage everyone to go check it out.
Understanding Geek is here for the geeks!

Supers Event Weeks 4-6
Aug 20th
Weeks 4-6 of the Supers campaign has blown by, and we are currently in a two week break after the characters went through a major plot point that resulted in the achievement of Seasoned Rank.
The past three weeks of games have been as widely varied as any I’ve ever played or GM’d.
Week 4 kicked off with the disappearance of Lt. Wrench, Team Alpha’s leader. The rest of the team immediately launched into an investigation to find their missing friend. Through a convoluted series of encounters, including a few plans resembling some episodes of Leverage, the team ended up smak in the middle of the situation presented in the Minion Mash Quick Adventure. Unlike in the adventure as written, however, the point of view was switched around! Team Alpha crashed the Minion Expo and recovered their mind-controlled leader. When he asked what happened during the fight, the only answer Lt. Wrench could get out of the team was, “We had a team-up. You were great.”
Week 5 began in a colossal down home brawl with tank-equipped gangsters led by a Jabba the Hutt style boss. After that, Lt. Wrench was called away for a top secret mission, leaving the other three members of Team Alpha to chase down another lead the was loose from the previous session, the limousine-stealing street thug, Rodney. What followed was a fast-paced misadventure in which Shining Fist, the martial arts expert, stumbled into an android puppy pet store and did battle with his new arch nemesis, the android Viroella. After a bloody encounter at the mall (and a kind getting caught on the escalator), Viroella took over Team Alpha’s base. During a final fight against their own base’s defenses while protecting two teenage techno-paths from the academy where Safeguard, the shield/bubble protector, teaches, Team Alpha was finally able to trap Viroella back in her own electronic head. One of the players has started doing session debriefs on his blog, here. A Quick Adventure featuring some part of Week 5′s adventures should be on the site soon.
Week 6 was the culmination point of a number of running plots, including the team’s nemesis, Psychotrane. Riots broke out all over the city, and Team Alpha had to monitor the reports and decide where to intervene in order to best effect the outcome of the riots, which were clearly organized by The Propegator or someone even more powerful and influential. I liked this because I really did have five different ideas in mind to make their choices unique. It wasn’t just a “no matter where you go, the same thing will happen” kind of thing. In the end, they decided to prevent the assault on the supers detention facility just off the coastline of the city and ended up with a final showdown between Psychotrane and the other two recently liberated members of the Punishment Trio. I gave them all advances to match Team Alphas progression since their last encounter, and the battle was a tough one. The deciding factor was when Psychotrane’s mental hold on a mind-controlled Legendary Rank super faltered, spelling ultimate doom for the Punishment Trio’s plans of revenge. A Quick Adventure to go along with Week 6 will be on the site soon after Week 5 is posted.
So that’s where we are at the end of six sessions. At the current rate, the campaign should go another twenty sessions or so, and there are many more opportunities to get your group involved with the Supers Event. Just post on the blog and let us know what you are up to.
Until next time, happy gaming!

“Supers” Sized Update This Week
Aug 16th
My coverage of the Supers Event is currently a week behind from the schedule I had been setting for a couple of weeks, and I am planning a very large update later this week that could contain as many as three new Quick Adventures (depending on how behind I finally figure out that I am!) for your own Savage Worlds Supers games.
Let me also take a moment to reach out to groups that may be following the event who aren’t playing using the Savage Worlds system. Maybe you are playing ICONS. Maybe you are enjoying the new shiny Hero System 6th Edition. No matter what game system you are playing, if you are following this series and using any of the Quick Adventures for inspiration, you, too, can participate! I will turn away no roleplayer.
So, I will talk to you all later this week, and don’t forget to follow @ArmoryDave on Twitter to get all the latest updates on Tabletop Armory and my shenanigans and adventures in general.
